Morning Detox: Lighten Up with Nanogreens

If you're feeling a bit lethargic, having difficulty concentrating, and have an overall 'heavy' sensation in your body and your mind, a morning detox is the sure-fire way to lighten up. Even just one simple morning detox-flush can do wonders for digestion & elimination, and feed your body the nutrient-rich foods it's most likely craving. Nanogreens vegetable & fruit superfood contains the top 10 food for detoxifying your body through healthy, plant-based nutrition. No need for a fast.. nature provides everything the body needs to naturally cleanse and rid the body of harmful toxins that weigh you down. Below are 10 detoxifying superstars, all found in a single scoop of  Nanogreens superfood:

1.Beets

Beets are awesome. They are full of nutrients and are a great source of vitamins B3, B6 and C, plus beta-carotene, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron. They assist our liver and gall bladder in breaking down toxins, and their fiber is great for digestion and elimination.

2. Lemons

Lemons jump-start digestion by stimulating the release of enzymes and Vitamin C helps convert toxins into a water-soluble form that can be easily eliminated from the body. Lemons also help stimulate the liver and purify our blood.

3. Apples

Apples give our bodies lots of fiber and nutrients and help stimulate bile production, which the liver uses to release toxins. The soluble fiber in apples, pectin, is helpful in removing heavy metals and food additives from our bodies. Be sure to eat only organic apples, as conventional apples are some of the most heavily-sprayed foods around.

4. Leafy Greens

What we want from green veggies is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll rids the body of environmental toxins, heavy metals, herbicides, and pesticides. Aiding in detox, increasing oxygen content, and purifying the blood, greens are the essential building blocks of any healthy and vibrant diet. Nanogreens includes the nutrient-dense plant protein Spirulina, which contains a powerful blend of vitamins and minerals that boost energy, remove toxins and could even ward off serious health problems like cancer.

5. Sea Greens

Sea veggies have antioxidants that help alkalize the blood and strengthen our digestive tract. The alginic acid in sea veggies absorb toxins from this digestive tract. They also have the broadest range of minerals you can find in any food!

6. Broccoli

Broccoli contains important phytochemicals that aid in the detox processs. These phytochemicals stimulate detoxification enzymes in the digestive tract. They, too are extremely high in antioxidants!

7. Green Tea

Speaking of, you should all know by now that green tea is a great big source of antioxidants, one of which are catechins. Catechins increase liver function, which we want. Plus, drinking green tea aids us in hydrating our bodies.

8. Artichokes

Artichokes increase bile production and both purify and protect the liver. They also have a mild diuretic effect on the kidneys, which aides in toxin removal once the liver breaks them down. Some studies have shown that artichokes may actually regenerate liver tissues (It is seriously all about the liver!). They are also super duper high in fiber, which, as we know, helps us with elimination.

9. Parsley

Parsley is extremely rich in a wide number of nutrients, chlorophyll, and carotenes. It has been used for treating urinary tract infections, kidney stones, various gastrointestinal disorders, osteoarthritis, and anemia, among other conditions.

10. Cabbage

The king of the cruciferous vegetables, cabbage is full of fiber, which is good for our digestion and helps feed our gut bacteria. They are also celebrated for their anticancer benefits, as they contain more phytochemicals with anticancer properties than any other vegetable. These phytochemicals both increase the antioxidant defense mechanism in the body and help with detoxification of chemicals and hormones.

So the only question is: If you can get all of these amazing detoxifying foods from one single source, feel lighter, healthier and more vibrant.. why wouldn't you? The Nanogreens superfood solution starts here www.nanogreens.com.

Reds vs. Greens: What's the Difference?

We get asked this question a lot, so what is the difference between Nanogreens and Nanoreds?

Here’ what you need to know:

Reds or Greens

Both Nanogreens and Nanoreds are a superfood savior! While Nanogreens concentrates on more antioxidant -rich leafy greens including kale, spinach and parsley, Nanoreds contains more antioxidant-rich fruits like pomegranate, cranberry and black current. They are both high in antioxidants and include a combination of fruits and vegetables, but Nanoreds features the high-quality ingredient WellBerry.

What’s WellBerry?

WellBerry is a combination of the superfruit extract Amla (aka Gooseberry) and vitamin C. WellBerry promotes healthy immune function, is anti-inflammatory, and has amazing anti-aging benefits because of its high levels of resveratrol.

How much Resveratrol is in Nanoreds?

You’ve probably heard the benefits of drinking a glass of red wine for anti-aging, so you’ll appreciate this! There is 100 mg of whole grape extract providing 5% resveratrol per serving of Nanoreds, which is the equivalent to 22 glasses of wine (without the side effects of course)! Free radicals cause the oxidation process in our bodies, which leads to cell damage. The super hero in this fight are antioxidants who work to either prevent the chain reaction or stop it after it’s started. For woman over the age of 30, Nanoreds is a superfood, anti-aging superhero!

We recommend taking Nanogreens AND Nanoreds every day for the best health benefits. There's no competition here, just a whole lot of Nanolove! It’s time to shake your nanos!

Clean Eating 101

Rule number one for clean eating: Don't diet.

I don't mean to offend anyone here. Trust me, I understand the effort, dedication and energy it takes to follow a strict diet. I've done everything from the no-carb, high protein diet to the cabbage soup diet. I've been vegetarian, pescatarian and completely vegan. I finally said enough with labels, and landed here. Eating clean, organic, whole foods from valuable sources.

There's an endless number of books & countless reports that tell us what to eat. The bottom line is is that most diets give us temporary results and leave us under-nourished in one way or another. Clean eating is not a diet. There is no counting calories and no point system to follow. It's a practice, and a way of life.

Clean Eating 101:

1. Clean up your beverages

Cut back on (or cut out!) soda, juices from concentrate, or coffee with flavored creamer. Instead, reach for fruit-infused water, tea, fresh juices or coffee with organic creamer. Need some clean energy to go with your new lifestyle? Nanolean is a light, refreshing beverage that you drink between meals to boost your energy and curb cravings. It's loaded with fiber, helps to control stress levels and helps to keep your metabolism humming along. For people who have a difficult time drinking plain water, give this a try. But as always, water is the very BEST beverage every time!

2.  Clean up your shopping list

Clean eating begins at the grocery store or farmers market. Start asking questions: How long have your veggies, fruits, meat & fish had to travel to reach you? Read lables. If the item has more than 5 ingredients and lists a bunch of words you can hardly pronounce, put it back on the shelf. Pass on the gmo's (genetically modified organisms) which create toxins in the body that produce disease. Eliminate excess sugar, processed foods and artificial sweeteners & stay away from eating anything with chemicals or preservatives. To make it easy, load up on fruits & veggies. Then you know you're getting whole foods! Stick with the dirty dozen and buy organic when necessary. Check out the list here Dirty dozen/clean fifteen .

3. Clean up your recipes & start cookin!

Eat from home. This is an easy way to eat more whole foods and save money in the process. And you don't have to stop eating your favorite foods. Instead, choose the better version. That's the beauty of clean eating. Pinterest is loaded with clean recipes and ways to swap out your old go-to's with new ideas. For example, if spaghetti night is a tradition at your house, swap out the heavily processed pasta noodles for spaghetti squash. Use coconut oil for cooking instead of canola oil, and look for locally sourced, oraganic, grass-fed meat.

Find a few new recipes and stick with those for a while.. remember, this is a lifestyle change not a quick fix. Check out our clean version of Gluten-free Banana Pancakes for a breakfast that's healthy and delicious!

Most importantly, have fun! Clean eating emphasizes the enjoyment of preparing and sharing a meal. Good luck on your path to healthy and ditch the diets for good!

Antioxidant-Rich Raspberry Lemonade Smoothie

Pucker up! If you like the sweetness of raspberries and the tang of sour lemon, you will love this smoothie. It truly tastes like my son's favorite candy, Sour Patch Kids (the red one!) but has none of the bad stuff and a ton of health benefits.

Both lemons & raspberries are a rich source of antioxidants & high in vitamin C, which supports a strong immune system by fighting free radicals. They also help you maintain a healthy complexion by producing collagen. We gave our smoothie an extra boost by adding a scoop of Nanoreds Fruit & Vegetable Superfood, which is formulated with the antioxidant/phytonutrient power of up to 10 servings of fruit and vegetables!

Another plus: This smoothie is loaded with fiber. Eating foods high in fiber stabilizes blood sugar levels and can help manage diabetes. The insoluble fiber supports proper digestion and the soluble fiber lowers blood cholesterol levels. Add to that minerals like magnese, vitamin B, folate, iron and potassium.. and you have yourself a sweet & sour super smoothie!

Chill Out! Ayurvedic Foods to Keep You Cool

Last week was a doozy in So-Cal.  With temperatures in the high 80's, we were wondering if Spring had been skipped-over this year and we were headed directly into Summer! Have you noticed that everyone gets short tempered and more irritated as soon as the temperature start to rise?  People become impatient, aggravated, and... sweaty.  In Ayurveda, they call this heat-aggravated Pitta.

Pitta is one of the Ayurvedic Doshas.  Hot, fiery, intense and strong, it can send emotions through the roof and create moodiness, aggression and hot-tempers.  Other signs of aggravated Pitta are impatience, heartburn, acid reflux, stomach ulcers, lethargy, skin rashes, acne, low blood sugar and difficulty falling asleep.

To balance fiery Pitta and to stay cool, Ayurveda recommends adding cooling foods to your diet:
  • Eat more foods that are sweet, bitter and cooling such as salads, smoothies and fresh fruit.
  • Refrain from eating food that is spicy, sour, salty or hot. Avoid hot peppers & fermented foods.
  • Add dark greens, cilantro, broccoli, cabbage, celery, mint, cucumber summer squash
  • Sip coconut water or add cucumber slices to water.
  • Enjoy fresh ripe berries, melons, apples, apricots, grapes, peaches, pears and ripe plums.
Try our Honeydew Cucumber-Mint Cooler to CHILL OUT:

- 1 cup Honeydew Melon, cubed
- 2 tbsp. fresh Mint
- 1 cup Coconut Water
- 1/2 cup Cucumber slices
- 1/2 of Lime, juiced
- 1 cup Ice Cubes

Blend all ingredient in a high-speed blender & enjoy!

Men's Health: Foods You Should Be Eating Daily

I brought Nanogreens shots to the boys at Fire Station 5 in Carlsbad, California today!  I get to stop in regularly on these fellas as one of them is my husband.  I'm always amazed at the meals they make for their 'family dinner'.  As a group, they grocery shop together, cook together, and clean up together.  Every time I have been invited for dinner, the meal is well-rounded, healthy & made with tons of love.

Sadly, that's not the case for most of our guys out there.

Pizza, Buffalo wings, Mac n Cheese - we love you guys, and that’s why we think the stereotypical ‘male diet’ is due for a makeover. Times are certainly changing as men are recognizing that the first step to taking control of their health is paying closer attention to the foods they eat!

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of illness in American men, accounting for about 25% of all deaths, according to the latest statistical data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Consider that the next leading cause of death among men is every type of cancer combined, heart disease is a major killer.

Focusing on eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and including vegetables as well as cutting back on red meat & alcohol all contribute to a heart health & overall wellness.

Below are some guy friendly foods to include daily:

  • Vegetables - While all vegetables are good for you, some stand out above the rest. Cruciferous veggies such as Cabbage, Kale, Broccoli, Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts contain cancer protective phytochemicals called isothiocyanates. Not enough time to cook? Get your entire daily dose of veggies from Nanogreens
  • Beans - Rich in fiber, beans help lower cholesterol and are also high in antioxidants. They contain B vitamins, folic acid & iron, not to mention they are super filling. Studies have shown that people who eat beans 4 or more times per week were 22% less likely to develop heart disease!
  • Oats - Heart healthy oats deliver the perfect balance of carbohydrates, soluble fiber, and protein. There are 10 grams of protein in one-half cup serving!

Makeover complete! Add in these heart healthy foods & take control of your health.
We love you <3
